Pitch Pipe App Reviews

thank you

Nice simple app, does what it claims to do, decent sound quality

Not great

This app does play pitches as advertised, but I cant find a way to stop the sound without closing the app. The octave chosen is generally too low. It would be nice to be able to change the octave. Not worth $1 let alone $3!

Ive been looking for something JUST like this! Very cool!

This is a great App. Ive been looking for something just like this. Thanks!

Great for singers, and fun too

The Pitch Pipe app has a great interface. Plus, it has a feature on the reverse side (when you press the "i" at the lower right) which allows you to have it immediately start playing the previous note. Its optional, but if you want it to automatically play the same note as the last time you used the app, it saves you some time. It works on the iPod touch through the headphone jack, so you can hear it in your earbuds. No microphone is required.

PERFECT for acapella singing!!

This app is perfect to have on your iPhone because it does allow you to always have your pitchpipe with you! I sing in an acappella group and now we have a backup pitchpipe in case someone forgets to bring one along. It is a very easy app to use; looks just like a real pitchpipe, and is much more fun to use! (No chance of passing germs around, either). Great job!!!!!

A great, simple app

Ive been wondering why there hasnt been a decent pitch pipe app in the app store so far..so its nice to see this one show up. A nice intuitive design with simple touch and go controls. Exactly what Ive needed. Fantastic.

Works great in Church

Great for song leaders at churches of Christ! Very easy to use and obviously helps keep me on pitch!

Overprice and limited notes

I wish it could play more notes and have more functions:( This apps is very simple that is not worth 3 bucks at all.

Good idea but...

This app is a great idea, but mine had some issues. It freezes about 20% of the time when I open it, and the sound has stopped playing on the external speaker, although it did when I first bought it. I can use playback via headphones, but that does not work very well for choir, when everyone needs to hear the pitch, and I would rather not have headphones hanging out of my ears during a performance! Any updates coming?

Amazingly useful app

I have always had an issue with forgetting my pitch pipe at the house. Never again with this app. It pitches perfectly and I have used it to lead many songs in front of the congregation. A must have for any acappella song leader. My only complaint is that when playing a sharp or flat note it only displays the sharp information. So pitching a D flat song display it as a C sharp. But its really no big deal.

Close, but needs work

The big thing for me is the octave issue. Being a singer, I would really like to have the option to move it up one.

OK, but needs improvement.

This is a good first effort, but it seems a few things werent thought through thoroughly: • It needs an octave selector. I dont quite understand the choice to include only pitches *below* middle C. Every pitch pipe Ive ever owned started at middle C and included the octave above. That said, Im sure the lower octave is useful to some, so the best solution would be an octave selector -- right on the main page, not hidden under the info button. • Its also ironic that the app displays a treble clef, although it plays notes from the bass clef. :-) Display a bass clef for the current pitches, and have the displayed clef change to treble, when the user chooses the upper octave (as proposed). Simply tapping the clef, itself, would be an ideal way to select octaves without cluttering the user interface with another button. :-) If youre concerned about tapping accuracy, you could make the clefs a bit larger, allowing them to descend into the center of the circle a bit. (Or better yet, just make the blank area immediately beneath the clefs "tappable," without enlarging the clefs, themselves.) • Give us a "single-play"mode. Its tedious having to re-tap each pitch, to stop it from repeating. One tap should play the sample once, instead of over and over again. Again, this behavior could be specified via a preference. But it seems to me that the single-play mode would be most practical -- especially in live-performance situations. • If youre going to include repeating pitches, have the samples properly looped. The current, start-and-stop pitches are cheesy. Loop them! We have the technology! • Finally, remove the "Currently Playing" text. Its unnecessary, and its clutter. When a pitch name is tapped, a very clear circle is drawn around it. Nice! So, under what circumstances would someone tap a pitch, ignore the big circle, and look at the bottom of the screen in order to determine -- in small text -- whats currently playing? :-) As I said -- a good first effort. Its almost there. Hopefully an update will hit the "sweet spot."

Not as bad as everyone says!

Works very well for me. Yes it doesnt have octaves but if you want octaves buy a real pitch pipe or get some talent and learn how to go up the next octave with your ear. Ive used this for a month now and it has helped me find pitches during several auditions and I did it on my phone! A few years ago that would have only been possible if you phoned a friend and had them play a pitch pipe through the phone!! Come on people...its 2.99...and I think accurately priced and works well.

Very Helpful App

I was re-stringing my guitar and my tuner was at the studio so I had no reference to tune from. Low and behold I discovered this nifty little app and it saved the day! This is perfect for guitarists, like myself who are obsessed with keeping in tune all the time. I dont see what the big deal is with the fact that there are no octaves. If your a decent musician finding an octave shouldnt be that hard. Anyway I downloaded this app and it got my guitar in tune!!! Which is awesome. Buy this app!

Functional but lacking...

I bought this via the App Store on the phone because I had a pitch pipe emergency. My barbershop group was outside a restaurant at some odd hour and we needed a pitch. I wish I had read the reviews first. There is one, in particular, that voices my same issues: - I need the higher octave. - The repeating pitch is somewhat annoying, perhaps a setting to indicate how long the pitch should be and make repeating an option. (Heres where the looping would come in handy.) - The treble cleff on the image is somewhat misleading... I wasnt expecting to hear the base clef notes. So it works, but it is in need of more options and a bit of smarting up.

Saved my butt...BUT could use some tweaking.

I perform with an a cappella quartet on a cruise ship and I misplaced my pitch pipe. Desperate, I turned to the app store where I found this app. I was ecstatic! We were able to perform and the audience got a kick out of it. So first of all thank you for designing this app, it really saved me serious ball-busting from the other fellas. However, there are some things that would make it better and more worth the 2.99 I paid. 1. An F to F option to key it higher and make it easier to hear. 2. An actual pitch pipe sound instead of more of a horn sound. 3. An option to adjust the length of the tone. Again, thank you for having the foresight to make an app like this. With these changes I can see this being a staple for my group for sure.

Pitchpipe

Although it does what it is supposed to do, the tone is irritating. Also, an F to F pipe would have been preferred or better yet, offer both and let the customer choose.

Spot on pitch

Great app. The pitches is spot-on. Its much better than having the actual Pitch Pipe (which has a tendency to be a little sharp, especially with wear and tear).

Unusable

Horrible! A blaring annoying brassy pitch that plays over and over and over and WILL NOT STOP!!!!!! The app should mimic a pitch pipe. When was the last time you blew on a pitch pipe again and again at regular intervals? No. You blow on it and then STOP! How about an off button? Unbelievably bad app! Dont waste your money.
